Servicing is planned maintenance: replacing the parts and fluids that wear out with use, before they cause a problem or a breakdown.
Interim service
Typically an oil and filter change with a check over the essentials — lights, tyres, brakes, fluid levels and anything obviously wearing. Suited to higher-mileage vehicles between full services.
Full service
A more thorough job, taking in air and cabin filters, spark plugs where due, a fuller inspection of brakes, suspension and steering, and the other items on the manufacturer schedule for the vehicle.
