Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026.
This policy explains what Bradley MOT Centre does with the personal information you give us through this website, why we are allowed to hold it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to describe what actually happens on this website rather than to cover every eventuality in the abstract.
The short version
- We collect what you type into our forms, and nothing else about you.
- We use it to reply to you and to carry out the work or the sale you asked about.
- We do not sell it, we do not share it for anyone else's marketing, and we will not add you to a mailing list.
- When you look up a registration, the registration is all that leaves this website. Your name and contact details are not sent with it.
- You can ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will answer within one month.
Who we are
Bradley MOT Centre operates this website and is the data controller for the information described in this policy. That means we decide what is collected and what happens to it.
Our address, telephone number and email address are on the contact page. If you have a question about your information, want a copy of it, or want it deleted, use any of those details and say so — you do not need to use a special form of words.
What we collect, and when
Everything below is collected because you typed it into a form on this website. We do not buy personal information from anyone else, and we do not build a profile of you from your browsing.
When you book your vehicle in
- Your name, telephone number and email address, so we can confirm the appointment.
- Your postcode, if you give it — optional, and only used to know roughly where you are travelling from.
- Anything you write in the notes box.
- The vehicle registration you enter, and the vehicle details we retrieve for it.
- The service you asked for and the date and time you asked for.
When you enquire about a car for sale
- Your name, telephone number and email address.
- Your message, and whether you would rather we telephoned, emailed or messaged you.
- If you tell us you have a vehicle to part exchange: its registration, and the details we retrieve for it.
When you send a part exchange enquiry
- Your name, telephone number and email address.
- Your vehicle's registration, its mileage, its condition as you describe it, and the details we retrieve for it.
When you send a message through the contact page
- Your name, email address, telephone number if you give one, the subject and your message.
Recorded automatically when you submit a form
- The IP address the submission came from, and the browser it was sent with. We use these only to identify and block automated abuse of the forms, and they are never used to work out who you are.
What we never ask for
We do not take payment through this website, so we never ask for card or bank details. We do not ask for your date of birth, your driving licence, your national insurance number, or any of the special categories of information — health, ethnicity, beliefs and the rest. If a page ever appears to ask you for any of that, it is not us: stop, and telephone us on the number on the contact page.
Vehicle registration lookups
When you enter a registration on this website, we send it to UK Reg Check, a service that retrieves vehicle information from the DVLA and MOT test history from the DVSA.
We send the registration and nothing else. No name, no telephone number, no email address, nothing that identifies you. The service is told which vehicle to look up, not who is asking.
What comes back describes the vehicle — make, model, colour, engine, fuel, MOT expiry, the recorded mileage at each test — not you. A vehicle registration can relate to a person indirectly, which is why we treat it carefully even though we do not receive the keeper's details and never see them.
We keep a copy of the response for up to 90 days so that we can investigate a problem if the wrong vehicle comes back or a lookup fails, and it is deleted automatically after that.
If the lookup is unavailable, or finds nothing, you can always type your vehicle's details in yourself and carry on. A failed lookup never blocks a booking or an enquiry.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each thing we do with your information. Ours are:
- To take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to perform that contract — replying to your enquiry, confirming your appointment, carrying out the work, and selling you a vehicle. This covers the bulk of what we hold.
- Our legitimate interests — keeping records of work we have carried out so we can answer questions about it later, protecting our forms from automated abuse, and understanding which of our car adverts are being looked at. We have considered these against your interests: none of them involves marketing to you, profiling you, or sharing you with anyone, and each is limited to what the purpose actually needs.
- A legal obligation — where information forms part of our business records, such as an invoice, we keep it because we are required to.
We do not rely on consent for any of the above, because none of it is optional decoration: it is what makes the booking or the enquiry work. Where we ever do ask for consent, you will be able to withdraw it as easily as you gave it.
Marketing
We do not send marketing email from this website. Booking your vehicle in or asking about a car does not put you on a mailing list, and there is no box to untick, because there is no list. If that ever changes we will ask you first, and it will be a genuine choice rather than a pre-ticked one.
Who else sees it
Your information is seen by Bradley MOT Centre staff who need it to do their job, and by the following service providers, only to the extent that each needs to be involved:
- Our web hosting provider, on whose servers this website and its database run.
- Our email provider, which delivers the confirmation to you and the notification to us.
- UK Reg Check, which receives the vehicle registration you enter and nothing else.
- Cloudflare, where a form shows an "I am not a robot" check, which sees your IP address and browser in order to tell a person from a script.
Each of these acts on our instructions and may not use your information for its own purposes.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it — to the police or another authority acting under a proper power, to our insurer or professional advisers in connection with a claim, or to a court. We would not do so casually.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We do not use it to train anything.
Where your information is held
This website and its database are hosted in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area. Some of the service providers listed above operate internationally, and where information is transferred outside the UK it is protected by the safeguards data protection law requires — normally the UK's international data transfer agreement or addendum, or transfer to a country the UK has decided offers adequate protection. You can ask us which applies to a particular provider.
How long we keep it
- Bookings — kept as a record of the work carried out on a vehicle, because that history is often what a later question turns on.
- Enquiries about cars, part exchange enquiries and contact messages — kept while we are dealing with them and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted.
- Anything forming part of our accounts — kept for six years, which is the period HMRC requires business records to be retained.
- Vehicle lookup responses — deleted automatically after 90 days.
- Advert view and contact counts — deleted automatically after one year.
- Submissions caught as spam — discarded.
If you want your details removed sooner, ask us and we will do it, other than where we are required to keep a record — for example an invoice, or the record of an MOT test we have carried out.
How our car adverts are measured
We count how many times each car for sale is looked at, and how many people tap the phone number or open WhatsApp from one of those adverts. It tells us which cars are getting attention and which need better photographs or a different price. That is the whole purpose: it is about the cars, not about you.
To tell one visitor from two, we store a one-way scrambled code made from your IP address and browser details. Your IP address itself is not stored, the code cannot be turned back into it, and it is not linked to your name, your email address or anything you send us through a form. Automated visitors such as search engine crawlers are excluded. These counts are deleted after a year.
We do not use Google Analytics or any similar product on this website, and nothing here follows you to another website.
Cookies
This website sets a small number of cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work:
- A session cookie, which keeps track of your visit while you are part-way through filling in a form, so that your answers are still there if you go back a step.
- A security token cookie, which protects our forms against cross-site request forgery — an attack that would otherwise let another website submit a form as though it were you.
Both expire when you close your browser or shortly afterwards. Because they are strictly necessary for a service you have asked for, they do not require consent, which is why this site does not throw a cookie banner at you.
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies or social media cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. If you block cookies entirely, the forms on this site may not work, because the security token is one of them.
Content from elsewhere
A few things on this website are served by other organisations, and your browser contacts them directly when a page loads. Each will see your IP address as a consequence:
- OpenStreetMap provides the map on our contact page. We chose it over the alternatives because it does not set a tracking cookie.
- Bunny Fonts serves our typefaces. It does not log IP addresses or set cookies.
- Cloudflare Turnstile provides the "I am not a robot" check where our forms use one. It sees your IP address and browser details in order to tell a person from a script, and does not track you across other websites.
Links to other websites — a manufacturer's recall checker, our Google Business Profile, WhatsApp — take you off this site, and what those organisations do with your information is governed by their own policies rather than this one.
Automated decisions
Nothing on this website makes an automated decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect. The registration lookup fills in a form for you; a person reads every booking and every enquiry, and a person decides what happens next.
Keeping it safe
The connection between your browser and this website is encrypted. The admin panel is password-protected, each member of staff has their own account, and access is limited to what each role needs. Payment details are never involved because we do not take payment online. No system is perfect, and if a breach ever occurred that was likely to put your rights at risk, we would tell you and report it to the Information Commissioner's Office as the law requires.
Children
This website is meant for adults arranging work on a vehicle or buying one. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not aim any part of this site at them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Be told what we do with your information — which is what this page is for.
- Have a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Have it corrected if it is wrong or incomplete.
- Have it deleted, where we no longer need it and are not required to keep it.
- Restrict what we do with it while a question about it is being sorted out.
- Object to our using it where we rely on legitimate interests.
- Have it moved to you or another provider in a usable electronic format, where we hold it on the basis of a contract or your consent.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we relied on.
Ask us using any of the details on the contact page. We will respond within one month, and there is no charge. We may need to check who you are first, which usually means no more than confirming a detail only you would know. If we cannot do what you have asked, we will tell you why.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first — most things are a misunderstanding we can put right quickly.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at any time:
- Website: ico.org.uk
- Helpline: 0303 123 1113
- Post: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF
Changes to this policy
If we change what we do with your information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Where a change is significant we will say so plainly rather than burying it.
